Gilly es una joven de once años, temperamental y maleducada. Fue abandonada por su madre desde pequeña y ha tenido que vivir en hogares sustitutos. Las familias que la acogen la devuelven rápidamente con la asistenta social porque se porta extremadamente mal. En realidad, Gilly lucha por no encariñarse con las personas que la rodean, debido a que ha sufrido desencantos cada vez que lo ha hecho. Sin embargo, eso cambia cuando llega al hogar de la señora Trotter, una mujer que con paciencia y cariño logra que cambie poco a poco de actitud. Gilly sueña con encontrarse con su madre, a quien ha idealizado y conoce solamente a través de una postal. Realizando una serie de artimañas, logra reunirse con ella, pero no era como la había imaginado. Gilly queda en poder de su abuela, y aunque extraña a la señora Trotter, su madre sustituta, no puede regresar a su lado. |
